Regular pelvic exams or ultrasound exams are essential for detecting large fibroids and determining the appropriate treatment.
Treatment options vary based on the type of fibroids diagnosed. There are several types we look for during your scan, including:
- Intramural wall of womb fibroids (most common)
- Subserosal outside the womb wall
- Submucosal fibroids in the muscle beneath the womb wall lining

Purpose of a Fibroid Scan
The primary goal of a fibroid ultrasound is to detect growths around the womb. Symptoms like heavy and prolonged periods, abdominal swelling, pelvic pressure or pain, and infertility issues could indicate fibroids. If you suspect these symptoms, a scan is advisable. Please let us know if you require a female sonographer at the time of booking. We do recommend that you come with a full bladder, as we will do a tummy pelvic scan and will then ask you to empty your bladder to do a transvaginal scan with your consent.
