How Is A Pelvic Ultrasound Carried out?
If you need a pelvic ultrasound, it will be carried out using an ultrasound machine; high-frequency sound waves will be transferred through your body via a transabdominal ultrasound and a transvaginal ultrasound; these ultrasound waves are conducted through an ultrasound gel. The sound waves bounce off your blood vessels and internal organs. Once the ultrasound machine has been started, the ultrasound images are transformed onto a screen, giving our team clear pelvic ultrasounds.
Our team can do a pelvic ultrasound in one of two ways.
- Transabdominal Ultrasound: This is carried out through your abdomen. We will have you lie on your back whilst on the examination table and use a small amount of gel; this will help the transducer move smoothly across your body and prevent air bubbles from showing up on the scan.
- Transvaginal Ultrasound: This is carried out through your vagina. The difference with this one is that access to your vagina with the pelvic ultrasound machine.

We do recommend that you come with a full bladder, as we will do a tummy pelvic scan and will then ask you to empty your bladder to do a trans vaginal scan with your consent.
