What is the purpose of an arm ultrasound?

The purpose of an arm ultrasound is to use sound waves to provide a detailed picture of the area, which will help detect any damage in the area. Our team will also use jelly on your body to act as a transducer between your body and the scan. It may be recommended that you have this ultrasound if you are experiencing any swelling or other abnormalities that cannot be analysed externally.

Every patient who visits our clinic for images receives the highest care, and we are proud to offer a large number of patients the opportunity to have an ultrasound to investigate their symptoms.

What are the limitations of Ultrasound Imaging?

When it comes to musculoskeletal ultrasound services, there are a few drawbacks, mainly that ultrasound cannot penetrate bone; we can only see the outer surfer of any bone structures and not what is inside. For example, if we look for arthritis, we may get an accurate understanding using an ultrasound.

Your doctor might find other treatments to find out whether you have these issues, such as modalities, MRI or X-ray; this way, they will visualise the internal layout of the bones, tendons and joints.

There are also limitations to the depth that sound waves can penetrate; therefore, deeper structures in larger patients may not be seen easily. If this is the case, we may have to refer you back to your doctors for further treatments; this will only be happy if our ultrasound machine can’t penetrate deep enough to cause the problem.
